Family Succession Classes Offered
Eureka (Nov. 10) and Garberville (Nov. 9)
Forest landowners, ranchers, dairy producers and farmers (and their
families) are invited to a workshop to learn simple techniques to help
with passing land and its legacy on to the next generation through a
workshop focused on succession planning. The Ties to the Land Workshops
are designed to give landowners a firm understanding of the succession
planning process and the tools to get started. While the examples in
this class will largely come from family forests, the information will
be appropriate to many other family agriculture businesses and all
landowners are welcome. This is a
two-part workshop
series with one workshop in the fall before the holidays when family
members often come together and a follow-up workshop in early 2012. The
follow up workshop will focus on the financial and legal approaches and
tools (trusts, limited liability companies, easements, etc) and specific
resource management planning approaches. Other workshops scheduled
include:
·
Ukiah, Tuesday, November 8
·
Garberville, Wednesday, November 9
·
Eureka, Thursday, November 10
·
Berkeley, Tuesday, November 15
·

other would-be conservationists and promote a better understanding among
the public about the important role landowners play in sustaining a
healthy planet. Finalists include: Tim Koopmann, Koopmann Ranch in
Sunol; Burroughs Family, Burroughs Ranch in Denair; and Bill Lyons, Jr.,
